'Taare Zameen Par' DVD release delayed abroad, Aamir sorry

New Delhi, July 26 (IANS) Aamir Khan is happy that Walt Disney Studios has bought the DVD rights of his hit directorial debut Taare Zameen Par in five countries, but has apologised to his fans abroad for the long time it will take for the DVD to hit the markets there.Aamir, through his blog, have said sorry to cine buffs in the US, Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, where it will take a few months for the DVD to to be released by the distribution company. “My genuine apologies to those of you living in these five countries and also to those who have been waiting patiently for the DVD to come out,” Aamir posted in his latest blog entry. “I was very happy to recognize that they (Walt Disney) liked the film enough to want to distribute TZP (Taare Zameen Par) in home entertainment for these five countries,” he added. The actor-director has also explain the reason behind the delay. “I know I am going to be slaughtered for this one. Disney has a lead-time of at least three months. They want to do a mainstream release (of the film) in these five markets. So while the DVD has been released in India and outside India as well, in these five countries it will be a few more months previous to it comes out.” Aamir said that he had no control over the circumstances and added that the only other option was to go back on the deal with Disney.

This is for the first time that any Hollywood distribution company has bought the Home Video rights of an Indian movie to be released in the normal market overseas. Disney will release the DVD with English sub-titles. The movie was jointly shaped by Aamir Khan Productions and PVR Pictures. Starring Darsheel Safary as the protagonist, Taare Zameen Par is about an eight-year-old dyslexic boy plus how a teacher, played by Aamir, brings him out of this predicament. The film was released December 2007. The film's DVD has been released by T-Series in India. I wasn't Aamir Khan's choice for 'Jaane Tu...': Manjari Phadnis

Mumbai, July 17 (IANS) (IANS) Manjari Phadnis, who played the second lead opposite debutant Imran in the hit flick "Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Naa", said she was not producer Aamir Khan's choice as he had his qualms in casting her for the role."Aamir did not want to cast me. I was the only one among the entire cast who was not approved by Aamir. But director Abbas Tyrewala was adamant to cast me," Manjari told IANS. "Almost 400 girls be auditioned for the role of Meghna and Abbas thought I fitted it the best. Finally Aamir agreed," said the 24-year-old-actress who debuted with Rok Sako To Rok Lo in 2004. While "Jaane Tu..." launched Aamir's nephew Imran as an actor, it is also Abbas' first outing as a director. And Manjari say that Aamir didn't interfere much as he was busy with his directorial debut. "Aamir left everything to Abbas as he was busy murder for Taare Zameen Par during that time. He used to come to the sets for a while and I did not have any long interaction with him during the entire shooting schedule." But when Aamir saw the final product, he was overcome by Manjari's work. "I was overwhelmed when he respected my work after seeing the film. It was a great achievement to get a compliment from a person like Aamir, who is one of the biggest superstars of the country." Manjari said it was a life time break for a newcomer like her to work with Aamir Khan productions. "People like me, who do not come from a film background, have to struggle a lot for a good banner and a right film. I truly thank Aamir for giving me the opportunity." Manjari's career slumped after her debut film Rok Sako To Rok Lo bomb at the box office. In last four years, she did a few films in the south and one Hindi movie titled Mumbai Salsa.

"Though my films did not do able-bodied, the roles excited me. I was patient and did not accept just anything that came my way." Asked why she wasn't seen in any of the pre-release pormotions, she said: "I was told from the first day that I will be not be there in the promotion and I accepted it. I am happy people saw me as a shock package." But isn't that the normal skillful for big stars? "Yes, I know but I had to accept it." She admit promotion would have worked better for her career, saying: "Yes, definitely. I would have surely liked if they would have promoted me a bit. But, people have started recognising me after 'Jaane Tu..'." Manjari is getting a lot of offers after "Jaane Tu..." “I have not finalised any of them. I am doing a couple of films in the south and going through the scripts that come my way. I will only sign a film when the story excites me and I have a good role to play." Manjari's next release will be a comedy film "I am 24" which has Rajat Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey and Neha Dhupia in the middle of others.

Delhi boy to act with Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor

New Delhi, July 9 (IANS) It's a dream come true for 14-year-old Rahul Kumar, who has got an opportunity to act by Bollywood stars Aamir Khan and Kareen Kapoor in a new movie.Rahul, a Class 8 student here, has been offered a role in the movie "Three Idiots" by "Munnabhai" fame director Raj Kumar Hirani. "I could not believe for a few minutes that I have been offered a role with Aamir Khan. It was my long cherished dream so as to has come true," an excited Rahul told IANS. The movie is based on Chetan Bhagat's famous novel "Five Point Someone" about three IIT students and the problems they face at the same time as studying in the institute.

As of now, Rahul has not been specified details about the role he would play in the movie but has been asked to report for shooting in Bangalore and Goa. The other actors in the movie, slated for let loose in September, include Sharman Joshi, R. Madhavan and Boman Irani. This is not Rahul's first feature film. He also work in Vishal Bharadwaj's Omkara and "The Blue Umbrella". In Omkara, he played Saif Ali Khan's son. "It was really a good knowledge to work with Saif Ali Khan, Konkana Sen Sharma and Ajay Devgan," he said.
However, it had not be a cakewalk for Rahul, son of a daily wage earner to learn acting before he got the support of Literacy India, an NGO that runs a drama school for poor children in Delhi's Palam Vihar. "I was interested in acting from a very young age but the monetary problems in family stopped me from taking professional training," Rahul said, adding: "In 2000, I came to know about the drama school plus since then I have been taking acting lessons there". Many volunteers from the National train of Drama (NSD), including an expert, Shrivardhan Trivedi, regularly visit the school to hone the acting skills of the children. Although Rahul enjoys his stint in films, he is concerned his studies will suffer due to his acting schedule. "I am worried about my study as I have to miss school for many days while I am shooting. Although my teachers and classmates are very cooperative, it is difficult to manage both," Rahul said.

The movie has been free and be declared a hit, but he is not able to keep himself away from smoking. Aamir post this on his blog site www.actortheaamirkhan.blogspot.com June 18. Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na, debut vehicle of Amair's nephew Imran Khan, hit the marquee on July 4 and got overwhelming reply at the ticket window. But the star has failed to keep his promise. The actor was allegedly seen smoking while he was in the wealth for a live-dial on Hindi news channel. The actor went out to an adjacent office complex to smoke since smoking was not allowed within the premises. "Aamir was here to chat about his film 'Jaane Tu...' and went outside to smoke since it was not allowed within the office area," a well-placed source told IANS.

Bollywood stars to form human chain against terrorism

Mumbai, July 7 (IANS) Several Bollywood stars, including Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan, have become part of a unique initiative where celebrities and over 2,000 volunteers are set to form a human chain Aug 15 to raise their voice against terrorism.Apart as of Amitabh and Aamir, siblings Saif Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan too have committed their support to a signature campaign on "Harmony vs Terrorism" that was launched here Monday under the aegis of the Citizen's Council for a Better Tomorrow (CCBT). The five-kilometre human chain on India's self-government Day will start from the city's central business district of Nariman Point and go on to Chowpatty Beach in south Mumbai. The celebrities and volunteers would clasp up banners of "Mumbai Meri Jaan" after the title of forthcoming film "Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan".

The movie, due for release August-end, is based on the terror attacks on Mumbai's suburban trains in 2006 that claimed 187 lives. Soha, who plays the female lead in the film, launched the signature campaign and said: "I am first an entertainer. But at what time Nishikant Kamath (director of 'Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan') offered me the role, I accepted it out of a sense of social responsibility. The government alone can't fight terrorism. It needs people's support." Ronnie Screwvala, chairman of UTV that has shaped the film, said he saw a synergy in the messages promoted by CCBT and "Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan".
"The message of harmony broaden by CCBT is commendable and therefore we decided to come together for this cause," he said. Former Mumbai sheriff and founder-president of CCBT F.T. Khorakiwala, past police commissioner M.N. Singh and director Nishikant Kamath were also present at the launch function. "The campaign stem from my vision of seeing the people of my country living peacefully and in total communal harmony. I hope the people of Mumbai in particular and India in general will support this campaign," Khorakiwala said. CCBT was formed at the plan of Khorakiwala soon after the 1993 Mumbai blasts following the demolition of the Babri Masjid. The NGO has had the support of well-known Mumbai residents like industrialist Keshub Mahindra, advertising guru Alyque Padamsee, actress Shabana Azmi and realty developer Ashok Ajmera.

I was happy letting Aamir do the talking: Imran Khan

"I'm not shy but I take time to get comfortable with people...I was happy letting Aamir maamu do all the speaking. I also knew people would start making comparisons between us regardless of whether we were seen jointly or not. When the comparisons are inevitable, what's the point worrying about it? I really appreciate Aamir's support though," Imran told IANS in an interview. So how much does Imran depend on Aamir for advice? "On a personal level we're extremely close. Yes he's my uncle and I'm proud of that. But we don't discuss each other's work besides 'Jaane Tu...'. Our family has always separated the personal from the professional. He's for all time been a great believer in letting every one he loves find his own path. He always tells me to make my decisions about which films to do," he said. So why wasn't he talking a great deal before the film's release? "I wanted the film to speak for me before I did. Now that people know what's in store in "Jaane Tu...", I feel more tranquil talking about the film. Though I'm still uncomfortable talking about myself." Like Aamir, Imran wanted to be a executive to begin with.

"Yes, that's why I can look at my film objectively. I was 22 and immature when I wanted to be a director. Now I feel I'm not complete for direction yet. Thank god 'Jaane Tu..." came into my life." And again like Aamir, Imran too believe commercial films can be intelligent. "anywhere and how did we decide intelligent films can't be commercial? I believe at the end of the day we've to sell tickets in theatres. And for that we need to make audiences feel good about a film. Given those parameters it's our duty to do something innovative." Imran already has two other films - "Kidnap" and Luck" - on the floors. "Shibani Bhatija who wrote Karan Johar's 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' wrote 'Kidnap'. It's an exceptional script. My quality was so interesting ... and a challenge for me because it's completely different from 'Jaane Tu...". It required me to stretch myself as an actor. It took me very far away from my comfort zone. "Then there's 'Luck' which takes me to another zone. Though I can identify with the character, it's a very tough film physically. I'll come out of 'Luck' with a lot of bruises," Imran laughed.

Imran never hid his rapport with girlfriend Avantika Malik and says he's only happy being seen with her in public. "I feel whoever you are in a association with needs to feel like an important part of your life. The soul mate is a very important support system. I'm glad to have her by my side," he said. The actor also denied the conception that having a girlfriend would affect an actor's career. "People wrongly feel if a male actor is attached his career suffers. Shah Rukh (Khan), Aamir mamu, Hrithik (Roshan) ...all came keen on the industry attached. Finally it's only your work that the audience looks at," Imran quipped. The actor has already won audience hearts with his first film, but he has his head firmly on his shoulders. "I question if I can live up to all the expectations! I've seen 'Jaane Tu...' dozens of times. I've done whatever I could do. More than my happiness my director Abbas Tyrewala, Mansoor Khan and Aamir mamu are happy. But I can see only the glaring flaws. But Aamir and Abbas are happy. So I'm going by their judgement." Imran is also against the much talk about competition between him and debutante Harman Baweja, specially since their films released on the same day. He said: "Filmmaking is not a marathon race where only one person wins. For one film to be a success it isn't necessary for the additional to fail. It's all about whether the films are liked by the audience or not. And who says only one film can do well?"

'Jaane Tu...' got a superstar opening: Aamir

Mumbai, July 5 (IANS) Light college drama "Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na" won the hearts of audiences on the day of its release and Aamir Khan, whose nephew Imran debuted in the film, says it got an opening only a superstar's movie would get."'Jaane Tu...' got a reply as strong as 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' (Aamir's debut film). It got an opening which only Shah Rukh (Khan) or Hrithik's films get," Aamir, who is also a co-producer of the film, said at a press conference here late Friday. Aamir, who was accompanied by Imran, actress Genelia D'Souza and director Abbas Tyrewala, said the cinema fresh look and young star cast had made it popular. Asked about his creative contribution towards "Jaane Tu...", he asserted that Abbas was the main creative force in the rear the movie. "The only thing I did for the movie is that when Abbas brought me the script I said it is a great script. Go with it," Aamir said. But Abbas reacted fast and said: "Aamir is being too humble. He gave me various suggestions from time to time which were very useful to me." Audiences just loved the movie and adored Imran, who is touted as the new chocolate boy on the block. "The former show of 'Jaane Tu...' was housefull," said Sachin Shah, manager, KT Multiplex in suburban Mumbai. Said Tenzin, a student: "It is a peppy young movie, a lot of fun, is very fast and doesn't drag at all. You don't realise how it gets over. Imran is adorable." But Imran still has his head steadfastly on his shoulders and said: "The audience has a lot of expectations from me as I am a star's nephew. So there is huge pressure on me. I'll do my best to live up to the expectations of my fans." According to deal analyst Taran Adarsh, the film got an overwhelming response at the box office on its first day. "The film got a flying start, collecting more than 80 percent in morning shows and was 100 percent in noon show across the country. It's one of the biggest starts of this year. The reports are very good and the film is expected to enjoy a strong, meritorious run in days to come," Adarsh said.

'Aamir' not copy of Hollywood film: Rajiv Khandelwal

Mumbai, June 6 (IANS) TV star Rajiv Khandelwal has rubbished rumours that his debut movie Aamir, at large Friday, is a copy of the Hollywood film "Cellular".In Aamir, Rajiv is often seen talking on the phone. "The minute I hear the script I loved the sound of it. The idea of my character roaming anxiously in the crowded areas of Mumbai, taking instructions on the phone from mysterious populace really caught my attention," Rajiv told IANS. "But it's not a copy of the Hollywood film 'Cellular'. People jumped to the conclusion when they saw me running disorganized with a cell phone," added the actor. In real life Rajiv loses his phone more frequently than his temper. "I lost my phone last month. Then again last week I dropped it on the beach and lost the phone and all my numbers at a time after I needed to invite all my friends and associates for my premiere." While shooting the film the actor had an interesting encounter with a woman fan. It happened in the crowded Dongri district where Rajiv was shooting Aamir with hidden cameras, hoping he wouldn't be recognised. Unfortunately, a woman fan jump out of the crowd and accosted Rajiv, recognising him as Sujal, the character from Ekta Kapoor's soap "Kahiin To Hoga" that brought him fame. "We were shooting on the road in Dongri where I had to run across the street. And there couldn't be a re-take for obvious reasons. Suddenly this woman spotted me from a taxi. She stopped her vehicle mid-street, get out and started screaming my name." "The camera was rolling. I told her I needed to cross the street before the lights changed from red to green. She wouldn't eavesdrop. So I gently pushed her hands away and crossed as per the script. That shot of the woman stopping me is in the film." Shooting Aamir was a great challenge, says the actor. "We shot for 28 days on the streets of Mumbai. Except a shot in an airport washroom, everything has been shot outside in some of the most congested areas of Mumbai. "We first tried assassination with normal cameras. But that didn't work. Coming from television when people in Dharavi and Dongri saw cameras pointing at me, they immediately recognised me." So far his movie debut has been smooth. "My most cherished moment was when Hema Maliniji after seeing Aamir said, 'Welcome to the film fraternity.' "I don't think of the hurdle. Yes, Sarkar Raj also came out with my film. So what? The minute you stop focusing on the finishing line and start looking around, you are finished."

Sachin has an amazing instinct: Aamir Khan

New Delhi, June 3 (IANS) Actor-director Aamir Khan, who is leaving no stone unturned to give his nephew Imraan Khan a imposing launch with "Jaane Kyun...Ya Jaane Na", is smitten by ace cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. At the final Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings held in Mumbai Sunday, Aamir was seated next to Sachin. "The match was surely exciting but what made it a unique experience for me was that I had Sachin next to me," Aamir wrote in his latest blog entry. The actor is totally in awe of Sachin, who, according to Aamir was able to envisage every ball before it was bowled. "'He is going to bowl a bouncer next', 'This one is going to be a slower one', 'Full tilt outer the off stump', 'Next one will be a yorker', 'short of length' - it was uncanny. He got it right each time. No wonder it's so difficult to bowl to him. He has an amazing instinct." Apparently, Sachin also shared his logic for each forecast with Aamir. "I won't share it (the logic) with you as I don't want to disclose how his mind works. "But all of us were surprised with his instinct and his acumen. So at the end of it I told him next time we watch a film together, I'm going to tell him what is going to happen next!"

Aamir pitches in hard for nephew, upsets Harry Baweja

Mumbai, May 28 (IANS) Aamir Khan's decision to release his nephew's debut vehicle "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na" on July 4 has baffled Harry Baweja, who fixed the same date long back to open his son Harman's launch pad Love Story 2050.While Aamir is determined to make a achievement out of Imran's career, anything for family seems to be the marketing motto for Harry who put in more than Rs.800 million in the hi-fi sci-fi Love Story 2050 to ensure his son's super success. Apart from that Priyanka Chopra is playing female lead in the film. "The Bawejas were shocked," said a source close to the film. "They had planned and strategised their film's release almost six months in advance. They had spoken to every one their potential competitors from Salman Khan to Ram Gopal Varma to Apoorva Lakhia and Aziz Mirza to Yash Raj and Tips. "Harman called them up personally to make sure his film comes on a free Friday. Then suddenly Aamir showed up to fashion an almost Saawariya - Om Shanti Om crisis. The 'Jaane Tu' release was nowhere in sight when Love Story 2050 was announced. Suddenly, they came out of the blue," the source told IANS. Harry made a panic call to Aamir. "Harry knows Aamir from the time he did B. Subhash's 'Love Love Love' where Harry was an supporter director. Ever since they've been in touch. Aamir told him he was indeed thinking of coming on July 4." Incidentally, Genelia D'Souza, who plays Imran's leading lady, is also Harman's girl in the latter's second release "Victory". "The Bawejas' first preview started on a Sunday. That same day a blog went up saying 'Imran Versus Harman'. That's when the Bawejas first came to know that Aamir was planning to release on the same day." However, Harman smiles off competition, saying: "Healthy competition is always welcome. I'd rather center on my work. We've just started the promotion of our first song. It's one of the costliest songs ever filmed."

But, yes, I've done a lot of action scenes in 'Ghajini'. They've been extremely unnerving." The action sequences require Jiah to match Aamir kick for kick. Aamir makes me look different in 'Ghajini': Jiah Khan

Mumbai, May 2 (IANS) Spunky Jiah Khan, who wasn't seen much after her debut in the controversial Nishabd, says she was coming up for "Ghajini" to roll out. In it, co-star Aamir Khan presents her in a different avatar."I haven't been hiding. I was just waiting for 'Ghajini' to start. I had no reason to be in the news. In between, I did a brand endorsement, that's all," Jiah, who is Britain-bred and is barely into her 20s, told IANS. "I don't go out to party. Not that I'm a recluse. But at this age, I don't want to get unnecessarily influenced by the mistaken kind of people. Once I'm 30 and achieved what I've set out to, I can visit all the night places that I want to." Jiah started as the boldly saucy desi Lolita in Ram Gopal Varma's Nishabd in which Amitabh Bachchan played her male lead. Commenting on choosing an unconventional role, she said: "Being so young and coming into the industry with no familiarity of how it worked, I picked an unconventional role. No regrets. I maintained my distance after Nishabd. I waited for the right opportunity. "For Aamir's film 'Ghajini' I did an audition. It was a long process. At the end of the day, it's a fantastic role, and it's leaving to be one of the biggest releases of 2009. Aamir has given me a completely different look. "Tell her she's a misfit in Bollywood and Jiah chuckle in amusement. "Really? You think so? I had no problem fitting in. As long as you're reverent to people who are older and more experienced there's no need to try to fit in." She is currently working with two generations of stars, Aamir and Shahid Kapur, in two different films. "And if you consider the fact that I started my career with Mr. Bachchan as my hero, I've got three generations of remarkably able co-stars in my first three films. I'm lucky. First, Mr. Bachchan, then Aamir and although Shahid hasn't got to their stature yet, he's equally dedicated and passionate. I think Jab We Met was fantastic." Jiah says she's equally contented with all three generations of actors. "I can get along equally well with someone 16 or 60. It's a gift, I guess. I really think I'm lucky. As for my so-called bold launch, I was very comfortable with my role in Nishabd. Maybe other people weren't. It didn't affect me beyond a point. "If they reacted violently against my relationship with Mr.Bachchan in Nishabd, then good. Aggressive reaction is far better than apathy Now in my next two films, I'm totally conventional. It's quite shocking, really. Suddenly, after Nishabd when I see myself on the monitor doing the heroine's routine, I am shocked. I like it."
